5 Brand Swaps We’re Making This Month – Lyon & Lyon

5 Brand Swaps We’re Making This Month Written by: Ben Lyon

L&L brand swaps.

As a creative agency focused on conscious brands making positive waves in the world, it’s only fitting that we reflect on our own personal choices.

Each month we’ll recommend five brand swaps we’re making,
in order to reduce our eco footprint and reduce toxins in our lives.

We’ll also add a cheeky L&L comment on their branding/marketing
because, well, we can’t resist!

So let’s go: here are 5 brand swaps we’re making this month.

Fussy
Deodorant

WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT:

Fussy describe themselves as a pro-planet deodorant. 100% vegan, free from parabens with plastic-free refills. They’re also B-Corp certified. What’s not to love?

DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

We took their next-gen deodorant for a spin. Our resident marketing nerd did a hefty 7K steps and reported back she was pong-free on return. Result!

LET’S TALK DESIGN / MARKETING

We’re smitten with their clean, minimalist design that perfectly aligns with their ethos.

While their Instagram feed is visually stunning, we’d love to see more real-world stories of their products in the wild, plus content showing the impact of their products in reducing plastic. *waves seductively at Fussy’s marketing team.

Better You

Vitamins

WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT:

Better You pride themselves on their planet-friendly products, all palm oil free and with 100% recyclable packaging.

DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

We love that their vitamins are pill-free – no more choking on those humongous pills! It provides a much more fuss-free and on-the-go experience, which is hopefully doing your body the world of good. Vitamin C-you later old brands!

LET’S TALK DESIGN / MARKETING

We’re fans of the sleek spray packaging, but the design might come off a tad clinical on the shop shelf. A little more emphasis on their planet-friendly message could go a long way too.

Head over to their Insta and you’ll find a healthy (excuse the pun!) mix of educational product-focused content, alongside some inspirational posts and wellbeing tips.

Smol

Dishwasher Table

WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT:

Are we seriously getting excited about dishwasher tablets? YES, yes we are! Smol are 100% plastic-free, complete with recyclable packaging which is delivered to your door monthly via a subscription. The product itself uses vegetable based inks, and uses lower levels of added chemicals per wash. WIN!

DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

Does it do what it says on the tin? Yup! Clean plates galore, delivered to your door. An all round positive, fuss-free experience.

Some may find the subscription model a downside, if you prefer to get everything in one go at the supermarket, but to us it’s just another thing you don’t need to remember.

LET’S TALK DESIGN / MARKETING

We’re loving the vibrant, eco-friendly packaging but an update to their branding and TOV could really help connect with retail consumers and send the brand into the stratosphere.

We’re also a big fan of the cleaning hacks they share on their socials, a good way to keep their followers engaged in an otherwise seemingly dull product area.

Green People

Suncream

WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT:

An ocean-friendly alternative to your everyday sunscream. Green people’s Scent Free Sun Cream is organic, cruelty free and vegan-friendly. Not to mention it isn’t chock-full of chemical nasties like Ethanol, Oxybenzone and Octinoxate.

DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

FULL DISCLOSURE. Being based in the UK means we’d be pretty optimistic to pull the suncream out any time soon, but we’ve certainly invested in this for when the fleeting sunshine arrives.

We love their scent-free option, which is meant to be especially kind to sensitive skin.

LET’S TALK DESIGN / MARKETING

Whilst the branding’s premium feel matches the price tag, we feel the bottles could shout louder about their clean benefits.

The product itself is so good and a great alternative to other brands, but imagine if the packaging could be more sustainable too – that would be the icing on the sun cream cake.

Suri

Electric Toothbrush

WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT:

Did you know that every toothbrush you’ve ever owned still exists?!

Described as ‘the last toothbrush you’ll ever need’, Suri is on a mission to seriously reduce toothbrush waste. Their electric toothbrush heads are plant-based and fully recyclable, whilst their aluminium bodies are repairable-for-life.

DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

This dentist approved gadget does the trick to keep your gnashers sparkly clean, whilst their on-trend hues improve your bathroom’s aesthetic game.

LET’S TALK DESIGN / MARKETING

Packaging: A big plus for us is that their B-Corp certification is front and centre, but the main messaging focuses on the 40-day battery life of the product, rather than the amazing eco-benefits, which we feel deserve a louder spotlight.

With such a sleek product design, it’s no wonder their socials are flooded with visually stunning bathroom content. Who knew the humble toothbrush could double as a stylish centrepiece?
