- Web Design Award
Lyon & Lyon, a branding and web design studio based in Sheffield and Barry, won Awwwards Site of the Day for their work with Bright Biotech, a deep tech company using plant chloroplasts to create more efficient, accessible proteins for the future of biotech. The award recognises the best in digital design globally. For Lyon & Lyon, it represents what happens when life sciences branding is treated with the same creative ambition as consumer brands.
This one’s extra special for us. Bright Biotech is doing truly groundbreaking work in plant-based protein production — but as is often the case with brilliant science, it can be hard to explain, let alone get people excited about. That’s where we came in.
They asked us for a full brand transformation, and we knew the website had to be the centrepiece. Something that could hold attention, tell a complex story, and feel as bold as the technology behind it. So we built a scroll-driven, animated experience that turns science into a journey — guiding users from the basics to the big picture.
Visually, the site is sharp, clean, and full of layered detail. Subtle animations and a coded intro sequence bring their process to life, and a warm, leaf-inspired motif ties the identity together. The real challenge was balancing clarity with creativity — making sure it made sense to investors, talent, and scientists alike, without losing any magic.
This wasn’t just a branding or web brief. It was about turning a complex, technical subject into something engaging and easy to explore — and pushing ourselves technically to make it all work seamlessly.
Winning Site of the Day is such a proud moment, not just because of how the site looks, but because of everything it represents. Big thanks to the Awwwards judges — and to the brilliant Bright Biotech team who trusted us to take their vision and run with it.
Bright Biotech is exactly the kind of company Lyon & Lyon was built for. Brilliant science, complex to explain, and in urgent need of a brand that makes investors, talent, and scientists feel the scale of what’s being built. This is deep tech branding done properly.
