Approach

Using the power of the ocean to heal the ocean – a design system shaped by the sea

Intro

Founded with a singular purpose to “put an end to plastic,” Searo Labs transforms seaweed into high-performance natural polymers. We collaborated closely with the founding team to create a brand that reflects the quiet radicalism of their vision. Our work included a bold new brand, website and pitch materials as well as strategy and tone of voice, designed to win over investors, attract talent and scale with ambition.

A SYSTEM SHAPED BY THE SEA

The brand is sculpted by the flow of the underwater world. Wave forms ripple through the brand iconography, a focus on dynamic UI/UX and motion design throughout the website echoes the eternal rhythms of the sea. Searo uses cutting edge material science to work in harmony with nature, this is externalised in the branding through Ai generated images and 3D models of hyper-real abstract seaweed forms that mimic the beauty and poetry of their 100% natural materials. This is coupled with real photography of the team and utilitarian shots of their polymers that highlight material properties. The brand palette is inspired by the vivid colours of seaweed, such as; ‘Spiral Wrack’ and ‘Dulse.’

Client

Searo harness the natural properties of sustainably sourced seaweed, to create the best replacements for plastics. After use, their biodegradable products return to the soil to nourish it. Searo’s natural polymer films are engineered to mimic all the great benefits of plastic, without any of the nasty bits. With constant innovation they produce the strongest, thinnest, most durable, 100% natural, biodegradable film.

Tone of Voice

Searo speaks with the optimism of a better future, one shaped by nature, not plastic. Every phrase is grounded in science but carried by emotion, balancing bold declarations with human warmth. From visionary headlines like “Using The Power Of The Ocean, To Heal The Ocean” to light, memorable lines like “Goodbye Plastic, Hello Seaweed,” the tone shifts between the technical and the poetic, always accessible, always purposeful.
